An old bike frame seen in a rubbish dump in golden hour lighting, 35mm
When I was a kid, you know, I used to hang around a rubbish dump that was just two blocks away from where I lived. But it was the most enchanted place in the world. It was a sort of gold mining town where I grew up and it was an old quarry and there was just all this sludge and stuff that had been built up around the outside. And then a concrete company had kind of just dumped all the stuff out of the cement mixers in there, and it was just full of seagulls and ibises and kind of trees and things like that. And you used to have to jump the fence and it was so dangerous, you know. You’d have to scale down these things… And they started, they built a rubbish dump there and they used to just pile everything in there to try and fill this, this hole up. But we used to go there and just smoke cigarettes and stuff like that, you know. And pick up stuff at the dump and find all these things. And one day, I found an accordion there and took it home and that started my musical career. That was, like, kind of this incredibly magical place for a few years of my life where, you know, I just felt absolutely liberated and like it was just the greatest paradise on earth, you know. Like finding all these old bike frames and, and stuff like that, you know, and, and carrying it home.
